## Set up GitHub Copilot for Discord DMs, step by step

- 1 ### Create your SealGate account from this link If you do not already have a SealGate account, sign up at the link below. Starting from it pre-approves the Beeper connector for your new account, so after you install there is nothing to approve by hand. Already have an account? - 2 ### Install the messaging connector Run the one-line installer for your OS (macOS or Windows). It installs sealgate-stdiod and the Beeper connector, which bridges your messaging accounts through the Beeper desktop app on your own logins, and connects it to your SealGate account. - 3 ### Add SealGate as an MCP server in VS Code In VS Code with GitHub Copilot, create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace with the snippet below. Open Copilot Chat in agent mode, start the sealgate server when VS Code prompts you and sign in with OAuth. { "servers": { "sealgate": { "type": "http", "url": "https://mcp.sealgate.ai/mcp" } } }
- 4 ### Approve the connector if you skipped the signup link If you created your account through the signup link above, Beeper is already approved, so you are done. Otherwise, open the SealGate dashboard and approve the Beeper connector once. Either way every call the agent makes is policy-checked and logged, and you can keep it read-only until you want the agent to reply on your behalf.
- 5 ### Ask Copilot in agent mode Open Copilot Chat, switch to agent mode and describe the task. Copilot calls the messaging tools through SealGate, shows you its drafts and sends only after you confirm. Summarize my unread messages and draft replies to the ones that need one.

Please help me connect Discord DMs to GitHub Copilot through SealGate on my machine. Requires macOS or Windows (Linux is experimental) with the Beeper desktop app installed.

## Connecting Discord DMs to GitHub Copilot: FAQ

Can GitHub Copilot read and send Discord DMs messages? Yes. GitHub Copilot adds the SealGate gateway as an MCP server, which exposes your Discord DMs tools. It can use them to read and send Discord DMs messages while you code.

Do I need a Discord bot or developer application? No. SealGate connects to your own Discord account through the Beeper desktop app, so there is no bot token or developer application to set up.

Is it safe to give an AI agent access to Discord? Your Discord login is never stored on SealGate's servers. Every tool call runs through SealGate policy checks and an audit log that captures only metadata (which tool ran, when, and which agent ran it), never your DM content, so you stay in control without SealGate storing your messages.

What does SealGate store about my messages? SealGate routes each tool call to your connector and back, holding the request and response in memory only long enough to apply your policies, then discarding them. That check is automated: the gateway inspects the traffic programmatically to enforce your rules, and no one at SealGate can read your messages. They are never persisted and never used to train any model. SealGate keeps only call metadata (which tool ran, when, and which agent ran it), never the tool-call parameters or results, so your conversations and who you are talking to are never stored on SealGate's servers.

Does it work with cloud agents, not just CLI tools? Yes. A small local daemon called stdiod tunnels your local Discord connector to any cloud or mobile agent, so apps like ChatGPT and Claude can use it too, not just CLI tools on the same machine.
